Karl Christopher Gibson Obituary, Death; – At 6:50 a.m. on Friday, officers from the Titusville Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call made by a woman who was engaged in an ongoing altercation with her estranged husband, against whom a judge had issued a no-contact order, according to a spokesperson for the department.
The initial investigation indicated that an adult male was threatening and aggressively pursuing the woman while they were both driving southbound on South Washington Avenue, as stated by the spokesperson. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the male suspect fled in his vehicle, proceeding southbound on South Hopkins Avenue.
The police pursued the suspect’s vehicle, deploying stop sticks in an effort to halt his escape. The suspect ultimately drove to a residence on Meadow Lark Drive. According to the spokesperson, the suspect exited his vehicle while brandishing a weapon, which compelled the officers to discharge their firearms.
The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 a.m. There were no additional injuries reported. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting, while the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is overseeing the crime scene investigation.
