Jay Choi Obituary, Death; – A Tacoma man who was fatally stabbed during an alleged confrontation with his 52-year-old wife has been officially named, as reported by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Jay Choi, aged 62, succumbed to multiple sharp-force injuries on November 27 in the vicinity of the 10200 block of Ainsworth Avenue South. The office classified his death as a homicide in a news release.
Choi’s wife, Youngmi Shin, was charged on Monday with two counts of second-degree domestic-violence murder in Pierce County Superior Court. She is currently detained at the Pierce County Jail with a bail set at $1 million, according to official records.
Choi was identified as the owner and operator of an HVAC business in Pierce County, as stated in the charging documents. Shin reportedly described herself as a housewife who assisted in the business office on a part-time basis.
Shin claimed that her husband had been drinking that evening and was attempting to leave the residence. To prevent this, she concealed the keys to their vehicles, knowing that Choi sometimes drove under the influence. While she was blocking the door, Shin alleged that her husband pulled her hair and struck her in the face.
She reportedly asserted to investigators that the act of killing was in self-defense, as noted by prosecutors.
