Amanda Person,Charles Person Obituary, Death; – The Iowa State Patrol has identified three individuals who lost their lives in a collision that occurred on Monday morning in Washington County, as reported by KCRG.
According to investigators, a Buick operated by 70-year-old John McAndrew from Fairfield attempted to overtake a snowplow in the southbound lanes of IA-1. McAndrew’s vehicle veered into the northbound lanes, colliding with a Nissan driven by 54-year-old Charles Person, also from Fairfield. The State Patrol confirmed that McAndrew, Person, and a front passenger in Person’s vehicle, 41-year-old Amanda Person, were all pronounced dead at the scene.
Additionally, a 17-year-old passenger in Person’s vehicle was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Recent statistics from the Iowa Department of Transportation indicate that 317 individuals have died on Iowa roads this year, which is a decrease of 32 fatalities compared to the same period in 2023. Over the past five years, the average annual death toll from statewide crashes has been approximately 350.
