Larry Lawton Obituary, Death; – An elderly woman is facing a murder charge following the discovery of an 85-year-old man’s body under suspicious circumstances at a senior living facility in November.
According to arrest documents obtained by 11 News, 72-year-old Kathy Lawton approached the front desk of Bonaventure of Pueblo on November 24, appearing distressed and covered in blood, and informed the staff that her husband, Larry Lawton, was deceased.
The documents indicate that staff members found Larry in the couple’s apartment with multiple stab wounds, surrounded by bloodied paper towels. Subsequently, Kathy was taken to the Pueblo Police Department for interrogation.
The arrest documents reveal that a police officer noted the smell of alcohol on Kathy’s breath, suggesting she was intoxicated. A knife was discovered in the room where Larry was found, and authorities reported that it seemed someone had attempted to clean blood from the weapon.
Following an investigation into the matter, Kathy was arrested on charges of second-degree murder. As of Wednesday, she remained in custody at the Pueblo County jail with a bond set at over $250,000. The Pueblo County Coroner reported late last week that Larry had succumbed to injuries sustained during what appeared to be a domestic violence incident.
