Gregory Matthew Thompson,Connie Lee Yates Obituary, Death; – New information has emerged regarding the tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals on Freedom Drive in west Charlotte on Wednesday morning.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the incident occurred at approximately 8:13 a.m. on October 30, in the 3200 block of Freedom Drive, directly in front of a Pizza Hut. At the scene, authorities discovered a Mitsubishi and a Dodge vehicle.

The Mitsubishi was operated by 67-year-old Gregory Matthew Thompson, who had 70-year-old Connie Lee Yates as a passenger. Unfortunately, both individuals succumbed to their injuries at the site of the accident.

The driver of the Dodge has been identified as 34-year-old Tajarvis Deonte Wall. He, along with a young girl, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators have reported that Wall collided with Thompson’s vehicle while it was executing a U-turn. It is believed that excessive speed on Wall’s part played a significant role in the accident.

Wall faces multiple charges, including two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, operating a vehicle without a license, improper lane usage, violations related to child safety seats, speeding, and a window tint infraction.

The inbound lanes of Freedom Drive were closed for a duration of five hours as emergency crews worked to clear the area. Wall has been granted a $100,000 unsecured bond.
