Gregory Bolls Obituary, Death; – The coroner has disclosed the identity of a worker who tragically lost his life after being struck by a skid steer loader at an Illinois Tollway maintenance facility in Gurnee.
Emergency responders from the Gurnee Fire Department and the Illinois State Police arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. on Friday at the Illinois Tollway M-4 building, situated along Interstate 94 near Grand Avenue in Gurnee. A 911 call had reported that an individual had been run over by a skid steer.
According to radio communications from the fire department, the victim was found unconscious, and it was unclear whether he was breathing.
The Illinois State Police indicated that an initial investigation revealed that two contracted employees, who were not affiliated with the tollway, were engaged in work at the maintenance facility. One contractor was operating the skid steer when the other, identified as Gregory Bolls, 39, from Chicago, walked directly in its path.
As a result, Bolls was struck by the machinery, suffering life-threatening injuries, as reported by police radio communications. Paramedics subsequently transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
On Monday, Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton confirmed that Bolls succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Sunday afternoon. The investigation by state police is ongoing, and additional information has yet to be released.
