Tyler Neil Alexander Obituary, Death; – An Amazon employee was shot and killed on Sunday night in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center located in Bessemer, as reported by the Bessemer Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the Amazon Warehouse at 975 Powder Plant Road at approximately 10:40 p.m. on January 18, 2026, following a report of a potential shooting incident. Upon their arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Tyler Neil Alexander, a 19-year-old resident of Birmingham. According to the coroner, Alexander sustained gunshot injuries during a reported assault. His death is currently being treated as a homicide.

Bessemer police confirmed that Alexander was employed at the Amazon facility. At this time, no suspects are in custody, and investigators have stated that it is unclear whether the individual or individuals responsible for the incident were also employees.

In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Sam Stephenson expressed, “We’re deeply saddened by this tragic and senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees during this time. We’re working with the Bessemer Police Department in their active investigation.”

Amazon also confirmed that after law enforcement provided the all-clear, the remainder of the overnight shift was canceled, and employees were sent home with pay. Additionally, day shift operations for Monday, January 19, were also canceled, with employees compensated for the missed time. The company stated that counseling resources will be made available to employees upon their return to work.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been disclosed.
