Kyle Olsen Obituary, Death; – A man from Mason County was fatally shot on Christmas Day, and a man from Kitsap County has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, according to authorities.
Deputies arrived at approximately 8 p.m. on December 25 in response to a report of a shooting at a residence in Mason County, where callers indicated that a man had been shot and that witnesses were detaining the suspected shooter, as stated in court documents.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Kyle Olsen. Investigators reported that Olsen was “roughhousing” with Tyler J. Hess, 30, when Hess allegedly aimed a firearm at Olsen and shot him.
Witnesses, including Olsen’s wife and Hess’ fiancée, informed investigators that Hess was significantly intoxicated at the time of the incident. They stated that they disarmed him following the shooting and concealed the weapon. They also told deputies that they did not witness any actions from Olsen that would have warranted the shooting, according to court documents.
Emergency medical personnel attempted to perform life-saving measures; however, Olsen was declared dead at the scene at 10:37 p.m., as reported by authorities. Detectives subsequently found a spent 9mm casing in the backyard, which matched the firearm that was confiscated.
Records indicated that Hess was the owner of the pistol, according to investigators. He has been released on a $100,000 bond, and his arraignment is scheduled for December 31.
