Jada Upshaw Obituary, Death: – The mother of a woman from Bloomfield, who tragically died in a collision on I-91 last week, is advocating for law enforcement to pursue more serious charges against the alleged impaired driver involved. Jada Upshaw, 26, who was expecting her second child, lost her life in a three-vehicle accident that took place on Friday, October 4, shortly before 9 p.m.

Kimberly Upshaw, her mother, shared her thoughts with NBC Connecticut, revealing that her daughter was three months pregnant with a son and had a two-year-old daughter named Kalani. “She was driving home from dinner when this horrific accident occurred,” Kimberly Upshaw recounted. She detailed how the driver, suspected of being under the influence, instigated the crash, leading to Jada’s vehicle overturning several times and colliding with another car.

State police have charged Jacob Daniel Texidor, 23, from Ellington, with operating a vehicle while impaired. He was processed at Troop H and subsequently released on a $50,000 bond. Upshaw expressed her astonishment that Texidor was permitted to leave the same night as the fatal incident.

“He is facing a drunk driving charge, yet he was released the same night, which I find incomprehensible,” she remarked, adding, “How can someone be released the same night after a fatal accident that shut down the highway, involved multiple vehicles, and resulted in loss of life? That contributes to my heartache. How did this occur?”

Upshaw is urging for further charges to be brought, especially considering her daughter was pregnant at the time of the accident. “My daughter lost her life, and there should be additional charges. She was also pregnant with her second child, meaning another life was lost,” she emphasized. Upshaw also voiced her frustration regarding the low bond that allowed Texidor to be released shortly after the incident, questioning, “Why was this individual allowed to leave on such a minimal bond the same night after taking my daughter’s life?”
