Elden Campbell Obituary, Death; – Elden Campbell, the all-time leading scorer at Clemson University who played for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1990s and secured an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons, has passed away at the age of 57.
Clemson University announced that Campbell died on Tuesday, but did not provide further details.

Campbell was a three-time All-ACC selection at Clemson from 1986 to 1990, participating in three NCAA tournaments. In his senior year, Campbell played a pivotal role in leading the Tigers to their only regular-season ACC title, followed by a journey to the Sweet 16, where they were defeated by UConn on a last-second shot.
Campbell concluded his career at Clemson with 1,880 points, a record that still stands, and he also ranks second in career blocks (334) and eighth in rebounds (836), among various other honors.
“I am profoundly saddened to hear of Elden Campbell’s passing,” stated Cliff Ellis, Campbell’s coach at Clemson. “… Above all, Elden was an exceptional and generous individual. This is a sorrowful day for the Clemson community. Elden had a deep affection for Clemson; he returned to support the program after his retirement. He embodied the spirit of Clemson.”
Drafted in the first round by the Lakers in 1990, Campbell went on to spend nine seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 1999. He also played for Seattle, New Jersey, and Detroit, winning an NBA championship with the Pistons in the 2003-04 season before concluding his career the following year.
Over the course of 1,044 games in 15 NBA seasons, Campbell averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds.
