Jewel Hunsaker Obituary, Death;- A 15-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in an accident on I-80 near the Utah-Wyoming border during Thanksgiving has been named.
The victim has been identified as Jewel Hunsaker, a student at Payson High School.
“We are heartbroken to announce that one of our students, Jewel Hunsaker, passed away in a car accident on Thanksgiving,” Payson High School shared on Facebook. “Jewel was an outstanding student at Payson High and was cherished for her positive engagement with both teachers and fellow students. We will deeply miss her enthusiasm, kindness, and remarkable personality.”
The Hunsaker family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral and burial costs.
“This Thanksgiving, our hearts were broken by the unexpected loss of Jewel Hunsaker—a cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and friend,” the Hunsaker family expressed. “Jewel embodied everything her name signifies: a radiant light and a source of beauty in the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness, laughter, and love impacted many, and her absence creates a void that can never be filled.”
The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported that the incident was a single-vehicle crash on I-80 Eastbound at mile marker 190. An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle sustained moderate injuries in the accident.
“We are immensely grateful for the overwhelming love and support from friends, family, and the community,” the family stated. “Any contribution, regardless of size, will significantly aid Tracie, Larry, and all who loved Jewel. Thank you for standing by them during this time of grief and for helping to honor the beautiful life of Jewel Hunsaker.”
Jewel’s funeral is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m.
