Stephanie Selecky-Banfield Obituary, Death; – A 58-year-old woman tragically lost her life on Thanksgiving due to a rapidly spreading fire that swiftly caused the collapse of her residence in Monroe County, according to police reports.
The victim has been identified as Stephanie Selecky-Banfield, a resident of Coolbaugh Township. She was declared deceased at the scene shortly after 1:40 a.m. on Friday, as stated by Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac.
Yanac mentioned that an autopsy is forthcoming to ascertain the cause and manner of Selecky-Banfield’s death.
Pocono Mountain Regional police, in conjunction with teams from Thornhurst Volunteer Fire Company, Coolbaugh Township Volunteer Fire Company, and various other fire departments, arrived at the location at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, responding to the incident at the home situated in the 2000 block of Locust Ridge Road.
Strong winds and other contributing factors led to the flames engulfing the roof of the building. Eventually, the roof, along with both the second and main floors, collapsed as the fire continued to spread, as reported by Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner.
According to the police chief, Selecky-Banfield was the only person present in the home at the time the fire ignited.
Wagner also indicated that there is no suspicion of foul play. Nevertheless, the cause and origin of the fire are still being investigated by Pocono Mountain police and the fire marshal from the Pennsylvania State Police.
