Carmen Lopez Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally stabbed in an Upper Manhattan apartment, while the suspected perpetrator is anticipated to face charges.
Carmen Lopez, aged 47, was assaulted at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday within her apartment complex located on West 129th Street in Manhattan.
According to police, the suspect was recorded on surveillance footage waiting for Lopez in the third-floor corridor of her residence.
Upon her arrival, the assailant inflicted multiple stab wounds across her body.
She was swiftly transported to Mount Sinai Morningside in critical condition, where she was later declared deceased.
Neighbors and friends of Lopez have stated that she was a mother to four young children and resided with them and her mother.
Residents mentioned that she generally kept to herself but was frequently seen with her children and was always amiable.
“It is painful to witness what has happened to a young woman I know,” expressed neighbor Ella Thomas. “My daughter is of the same age and was raised in this building.”
Neighbor Basilio Gonzalez recounted seeing blood on the stairs and discovered that the murder victim was his neighbor, with whom he had maintained a friendly relationship for approximately 20 years.
“She was a good woman, and she had four children. This is tragic,” Gonzalez remarked.
Police have indicated that a man believed to be her ex-boyfriend was apprehended at the hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries reportedly sustained during the stabbing.
Charges against the suspect remain unresolved.
“This appears to be an incident driven by passion and potentially domestic violence, although this has not been confirmed. However, the individual responsible for this act seems to be troubled in both mind and spirit,” stated Dr. Iesha Sekou from Street Corner Resources.
The surveillance footage has yet to be made public.
