Elmer Gualna-Mez Obituary, Death; – The individual involved in this incident has been recognized as Elmer Gualna-Mez, aged 22, from Athens, Georgia.

On October 26th, at around 11:39 p.m., the Athens-Clarke County Police Department was alerted to a vehicular accident that involved a pedestrian at the junction of Highway 29 N and Highway 72.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a 2017 Nissan Versa, a 33-year-old male from Hull, GA, was traveling northbound on US Highway 29 when he collided with a pedestrian who was crossing Highway 29. The pedestrian unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Investigators from the ACCPD are seeking the public’s help in identifying the victim. His last known whereabouts were at a nearby dining establishment.

Subsequent inquiries resulted in the arrest of the Nissan Versa driver, Sadiq Huda, who has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle in the 1st Degree and DUI- Alcohol.

This incident marks the seventh fatal crash of 2025, contributing to a total of eight fatalities in Athens-Clarke County.
