Sebastian Van Stockum Arrested; – A 20-year-old man from New Canaan was charged with murder on Friday after he contacted the police and admitted to killing his mother. He is anticipated to be arraigned on Monday afternoon.
Sebastian Van Stockum will appear before a Superior Court judge on Monday, nearly three days following the incident that led to the closure of a significant portion of Gerdes Road and the adjacent streets.
Despite the passage of several days, the New Canaan police have maintained silence regarding the case and have yet to officially identify the victim of the homicide. In an email sent on Monday morning, New Canaan police Lt. Marc J. DeFelice stated that the department does not plan to disclose any additional information regarding the case.
“Given that this incident is of a domestic nature, no further details will be provided,” DeFelice mentioned in the email.
The New Canaan police responded to the vicinity of South Avenue and Gerdes Road at 10:36 p.m. on Friday following a report of a man shouting in the woods, according to DeFelice.
