Mary Cardero Obituary, Death; – A man was apprehended following a collision that led to the death of a woman in Newtown.
According to the police, 19-year-old Alexis Salazar from Danbury was driving at high speed when his vehicle, which carried five individuals, veered off the road and collided with a tree.
The incident occurred on August 24, 2025, at approximately 2:40 a.m.
Law enforcement and firefighters reported that they responded to a location on Berkshire Road, just west of its junction with Zoar Road.
The police investigation revealed that Salazar was operating a Ford Mustang GT while speeding westward on Berkshire Road.
As the Mustang neared the intersection with Zoar Road, Salazar failed to navigate a left-hand curve.
Consequently, the vehicle departed from the roadway, and its front end crashed into the tree.
Mary Cardero, a 19-year-old from Danbury, was pronounced dead, according to police reports. She occupied the rear middle seat.
The remaining four passengers were taken to a hospital, with two of them sustaining critical injuries.
Detectives have been investigating the incident since it occurred.
Salazar surrendered himself on Tuesday and was held on a bond of $300,000.
The police have charged him with manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, making a false statement, negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and violating a no-passing zone.
