Jasen W Burton Obituary, Death; — Authorities have identified a man who lost his life after his pickup truck veered off Highway 65 and subsequently caught fire to the north of Bondurant.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jasen W. Burton, 42, from Des Moines, succumbed to injuries sustained in the early Monday accident, which was logged shortly after 4:20 a.m. near Northeast 112th Street. A witness informed authorities of flames emanating from beneath the vehicle after it had gone into a ditch.
Bystanders managed to extricate Burton from the truck prior to the arrival of first responders; however, he was found to be unresponsive.
Emergency crews from Mitchellville and Bondurant, along with deputies, engaged in life-saving efforts before Burton was airlifted to a medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident is currently under investigation.
