Gary Alton Traugott Obituary, Death;- On Friday, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) announced that it had identified a body discovered following the deadly flash flood that swept through Central Texas during the Fourth of July weekend.
TCSO reported that the individual was identified as 60-year-old Gary Alton Traugott from Leander. His body was located on July 16 beneath the Big Sandy bridge as debris was being cleared. In a separate update, TCSO stated that a joint operation conducted on Tuesday by its Lake Patrol Unit, the dive team from the Houston Police Department, Texas Parks & Wildlife, and the Jonestown Police Department in the waters of Cow Creek did not yield any additional victims.
TCSO confirmed that a total of 10 individuals have been recovered since the floods occurred. “Every person listed as missing in Travis County has either been found alive or positively identified as deceased,” TCSO remarked. A candlelight vigil took place on Saturday night in the Sandy Creek area of Leander, honoring those who lost their lives during the floods in the region.
“Lives were lost in the flooding. Numerous homes were swept away, and many others suffered severe damage. The vigil aims to honor both victims and survivors while drawing attention to the need for assistance for this devastated community. Residents are mourning, and many have been left homeless,” the organizers stated.
According to those who attended, the vigil was a means to highlight the area, which some believe has been overlooked since the flooding.
“The catastrophic scale of the disaster in Kerrville has overshadowed the devastation experienced in Sandy Creek and surrounding areas,” the organizers noted. “Residents are depending on the support of their healthy neighbors and other compassionate community members to help clear away debris from trees and homes that were washed away and to rebuild their community. More assistance is essential.”]} }}
