Peter Bayes,Theresa Giullari Obituary, Death; – The two individuals who survived a tragic boating incident on Lake Tahoe have been confirmed as a mother and daughter visiting from New York. On June 21, eight people lost their lives on the lake when a sudden storm struck, causing a boat carrying family and friends to capsize while they were celebrating a birthday.

Amy Friduss and her mother, Julie Lindsay, managed to reach the shore, with one receiving assistance from a lifeguard aide, where they were subsequently rescued and taken to the hospital. Officials reported that both were wearing personal flotation devices.

The women were commemorating the 71st birthday of Paula Bozinovich from Redwood City aboard a 27-foot Chris-Craft vessel owned by DoorDash executive Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, and his father, Terry Pickles, 73. Paula Bozinovich was the mother of Joshua Pickles. Tragically, all three lost their lives when high waves overturned the boat.

Also among the deceased were Joshua’s uncle, Peter Bayes, 72, from Lincoln, Timothy O’Leary, 71, from Auburn, Theresa Giullari, 66, and James Guck, 69, both from Honeoye, New York, as well as Stephen Lindsay, 63, from Springwater, New York. It remains uncertain whether any of the victims were wearing life jackets.

Joshua Pickles is survived by his wife, Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, and their 7-month-old daughter. They had been married for less than two years and owned a second residence in Lake Tahoe, according to family representative Sam Singer. Sugar-Carlsgaard opted out of the boat trip to remain at home with their daughter, Singer noted.

“No words can adequately convey the sorrow and distress we experience knowing that their lives were lost during what was intended to be a joyous occasion on the lake,” Sugar-Carlsgaard expressed in a statement.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support the two survivors, who are now left to mourn the loss of Stephen Lindsay.

“Physically, both mother and daughter are recovering, but they are grappling with the devastating loss of their cherished husband and father, as well as their best friends and beloved family members who perished,” the GoFundMe states.

Friduss is employed as a nurse practitioner, while Julie Lindsay has recently retired. The GoFundMe is being coordinated by classmates.

The boat accident remains under investigation.
