David Washington Obituary, Death; – Authorities have reported that the D.C. police are conducting an investigation into a deadly shooting that took place early Monday morning near Scott Circle in downtown Washington.
The incident occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of Rhode Island Avenue NW, located just one block from Scott Circle and approximately one-third of a mile from Dupont Circle, an area characterized by office buildings. Footage from television news outlets depicts a crime scene established in the street.
The victim, a male who was declared dead at the scene, has not been identified as either a juvenile or an adult, according to a police spokesperson. Law enforcement is currently searching for three males dressed entirely in black clothing and ski masks, who were last seen in a white vehicle.
Investigators are also looking into the potential motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police statistics indicate that the area surrounding Dupont Circle experiences relatively low levels of violent crime. Reports of robberies and assaults involving weapons have decreased this year compared to the same timeframe in 2023, according to police records.
Over the past weekend, three men were fatally shot in Southeast and Northeast Washington. Authorities identified David Washington, 36, who was found deceased early Sunday morning inside a residence on the 2300 block of Marion Barry Avenue SE. Additionally, another man was discovered fatally shot in an alley on the 400 block of 50th Street NE, though his identity remains unknown.
On Saturday, police reported that Erik Mewborn, 44, was shot and killed in the 2200 block of Adams Place NE. Overall, homicides in the District have decreased by approximately 28 percent this year in comparison to the same period in 2023.
