Troopers arrived at the crash location near mile marker 39 on I-77 South at approximately 8:20 p.m. The initial investigation indicated that the operator of a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 truck lost control, veered off the right side of the road, and collided with a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle, according to the NCSHP.

The driver, identified as Floyd Dale Davis II, 39, from Newton, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, as stated by the troopers.

Following the completion of the ongoing investigation and discussions with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office, charges may be pursued. During the investigation at the scene, I-77 South was closed in the vicinity for about two hours.
