Tyler Sigler Obituary, Death; – The individual who lost his life in Jefferson County during the storms on Saturday afternoon in the Eastern Panhandle has been identified.
According to Chief Deputy Victor Lupis of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Tyler Sigler, 28, from Charles Town, died when a tree fell on the golf cart he occupied at Locust Hill Golf Course. Despite immediate life-saving measures, Sigler was transported to Jefferson Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, as stated by Lupis.
Sigler and Tyler Browning, 29, from Harpers Ferry, were seated in their golf cart when a powerful wind from the storm caused a large tree to crash onto them. “Numerous witnesses, including friends and a family member of the golfers, saw the tree fall on these two young men and called 911 while attempting to assist them,” Lupis reported.
Browning was taken to Winchester Medical Center, where he remained hospitalized with severe injuries as of Monday. Emergency crews were dispatched to the area between the 11th and 12th holes shortly before 5 p.m. A severe thunderstorm warning had been issued for the region approximately 35 minutes prior to the incident, which experienced strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall.
The investigating deputy indicated that the incident was caused by a strong gust of wind rather than lightning. A statement from the Sheriff’s Office shared with the Panhandle News Network expressed, “Many of us at the Sheriff’s Office have known this family for many years; they are truly wonderful people. Our hearts go out to Tyler’s parents, Ronnie and Elizabeth Sigler, his sister, and all of his family. This was an incredibly difficult and emotional scene for all first responders, many of whom were familiar with Tyler Sigler.
He was well-respected and liked within the Jefferson County community, known for his infectious smile and dedication as a son, brother, family member, coach, and friend. Tyler had numerous interests, including hunting with his family, golfing, caring for horses, and coaching the local youth.
