Tom Mya Lyons Obituary, Death; – A suburban high school senior tragically lost her life in a car accident early Sunday morning on the Bishop Ford Freeway, prompting school officials to describe the event as a significant loss. The fatal incident, involving a single vehicle, occurred at 4:31 a.m. in Calumet City, specifically on the Sibley Boulevard ramp leading to I-94 northbound, according to the Illinois State Police.

The 18-year-old female, the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. This accident took place just hours after the school’s prom, themed ‘A Night of Enchanted Elegance,’ which was held from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Images and footage from the crash site depicted a severely damaged white Jaguar, with its rear window completely shattered and the right front passenger side appearing burnt and distorted.

A letter dispatched to the families of Homewood Flossmoor High School on Sunday morning confirmed the identity of the victim as Tom Mya Lyons, a senior at the institution. ‘With the consent of Tom Mya’s mother, we are sharing this information with the HF community to ensure you are informed of this tragic loss and the support services available for students and staff,’ stated the letter, which was signed by Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley and Principal Dr. Clinton Alexander.

The correspondence also indicated that the school would offer grief counseling to both students and staff. ‘We extend our heartfelt condolences to Tom Mya’s family,’ the letter further expressed. ‘Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. In challenging times like these, the HF community unites to provide support for one another. We are here for you.’ Updates to this story will be provided as more details emerge.
