Joshua Hampton Obituary, Death; – A teacher from Kentucky has been arrested following allegations of fatally striking a man while purportedly driving under the influence of alcohol en route to her school earlier this month.

Jamie Caldwell faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident, as reported by the Lexington Police Department. The 29-year-old educator appeared in court for the first time on Thursday, May 1, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently released on bail.

As part of her bail conditions, Caldwell has been placed under house arrest while the investigation continues, according to the LPD. The police report indicates that officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run incident shortly before 7 a.m. on April 16. Upon arrival, they found the victim with life-threatening injuries, who was then taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

A representative from the Fayette County Coroner’s Office informed PEOPLE that the victim succumbed to multiple blunt force trauma injuries on April 18, identifying him as 32-year-old Joshua Hampton. The LPD stated that officers utilized the department’s real-time intelligence center to locate the vehicle, which was discovered in a parking lot at Glendover Elementary, where Caldwell is employed. Following this, Caldwell was booked into the Fayette County Detention Center.

In a statement released after her arrest, a spokesperson for Fayette County Public Schools indicated that the district would refrain from commenting due to the ongoing investigation, noting that Caldwell had been placed on administrative leave. The case is expected to be presented to a grand jury in the upcoming weeks.
