Shannon Wallner,Danielle Washington Obituary, Death; – On Wednesday, the Anchorage police announced the identities of two women who tragically lost their lives after being struck by pickup trucks in separate incidents on Sunday. In a separate event, another woman was killed on Monday when a minivan hit her near the Rainbow Trailhead along the Seward Highway, according to police reports.

As of Wednesday, no criminal charges had been filed in connection with any of the three incidents, stated Anchorage police spokeswoman Renee Oistad.

Danielle Washington, aged 45, was crossing DeBarr Road, east of the Bragaw Street intersection, at approximately 6:35 a.m. on Sunday when she was hit by a westbound Dodge pickup. Authorities noted that she was not using a crosswalk at the time.

Bystanders attempted life-saving measures, and Washington was transported to a hospital by emergency medical personnel, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter, as reported by the police.

Shannon Wallner, 42, was struck around 12:30 a.m. on Muldoon Road, south of East Sixth Avenue, by a man driving a black Chevy pickup. Similar to Washington, she was not in a crosswalk when the incident occurred. Wallner was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports. Both women were residents of Anchorage, as confirmed by Oistad.

As of Wednesday, the identity of the woman who died in the Monday incident on the Seward Highway had not been released. A man driving a Toyota Sienna was heading toward Anchorage when he struck her near the Rainbow Trailhead shortly after 6 a.m. Oistad indicated that the woman was “in the roadway” at the time of the collision.

Bystanders also attempted life-saving measures in this case, and medics transported the woman to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Further information regarding the circumstances of this crash was not available as of Wednesday, Oistad stated. This year, nine pedestrians have lost their lives in Anchorage.
