As reported by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, on Friday, April 4, 39-year-old Dewayne E. Jones, Jr., from Carbondale, was found guilty of both murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
During the trial, the state presented evidence indicating that on April 28, 2023, police responded to a shooting incident at 700 South Lewis Lane in Carbondale. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, Rayshaun L. Simon, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement personnel provided assistance until the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
