Mark Anthony Alvarez,John Andrew Escamilla Obituary, Death; – The Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation into a four-vehicle collision that resulted in the deaths of a father and his 4-year-old son early Monday morning in Edinburg.

Preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m. when a white Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a male occupant, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of U.S. 281.

Authorities suspect that the Malibu driver was under the influence of alcohol, as beer cans were discovered inside the vehicle. Blood test results are still pending. Simultaneously, a white Chevrolet Colorado, driven by a female and accompanied by a child, was heading south on U.S. 281 when the driver swerved off the road to avoid colliding with the Malibu.

This maneuver caused the Colorado to lose control, resulting in a rollover that ended on the southbound frontage road. Both the driver and the child from the Colorado were taken to DHR Health and are reported to be in stable condition. Additionally, a black Hyundai Tucson, driven by Mark Anthony Alvarez and carrying his son John Andrew Escamilla, was also traveling south on U.S. 281 when it collided with the Malibu.

The impact caused the Tucson to spin across the southbound lanes, leading to a collision with a white Freightliner tractor-trailer. Alvarez, 32, and his son, residents of Pharr, were transported to DHR Health, where they succumbed to their injuries. It was noted by DPS that the child was not properly secured in his seat. The driver of the Malibu was also taken to DHR Health and is currently in critical condition.
