Marcus Jefferson Obituary, Death; – A sister continues to grieve the loss of her brother, who perished in a car fire in February 2022.
More than three years later, the Memphis Police Department is still on the lookout for the individual responsible for his death.
As reported by MPD, 41-year-old Marcus Jefferson was discovered in a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames near the intersection of Carnes and the Airways Boulevard overpass. “The manner in which he was killed made it take weeks for us to identify him,” stated Shalissa Jefferson, the victim’s sister. “He was an extraordinary brother, my only brother.”
Upon their arrival, investigators found Jefferson slumped over in the driver’s seat, leaning into the passenger side. They also located multiple spent shell casings in the vicinity of the charred vehicle. Jefferson noted that the extent of her brother’s injuries made it difficult for medical examiners to confirm his identity.
In fact, it was not until April 3, 2022—almost two months after the discovery of his body—that an identification was finally made. “They were only able to identify him after extensive examination, as even his dental records were unhelpful,” Jefferson explained.
She expressed that her family has spent three years seeking answers and justice, which has progressed at a frustratingly slow pace. “My parents are aging. My mother carries the weight of this loss, with dark circles under her eyes every day. He was very close to her, and it’s a heavy burden to bear,” Jefferson shared. “I pray every day that justice will be served before they pass away.”
While investigators have not disclosed much information regarding the case, Jefferson conveyed that the loss has left her family devastated. “Whoever is capable of committing such an act should come forward; it would bring my family and me a great deal of peace,” Jefferson said. “I love him and miss him every single day.”
