The crash took place at the intersection of Northwest 10th Street (U.S. 27) and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

According to Ocala Fire Rescue spokeswoman Ashley Lopez, emergency crews were alerted at 8 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 8:02 a.m. Lopez indicated that no extrication was necessary. Police reported that the victim was transported to HCA Florida Hospital, where he subsequently passed away.

What transpired during the incident?
Authorities stated that a work truck was halted in the inside lane at a traffic signal on NW 10th Street when a Toyota Corolla collided with the rear of the truck for reasons that remain unclear. The speed limit in that area is 45 mph, and officers have not determined whether speed was a contributing factor. Traffic several blocks away from the crash site was redirected to a side street to facilitate the removal of the injured individual, the investigation, and the towing of the vehicles involved.

The victim has been identified as Morgan Elliott Johnson, a 32-year-old resident of Ocala. The driver of the work truck, a male, sustained minor injuries, according to police. Typically, the Ocala Police Department refrains from disclosing the identity of the other vehicle’s occupant until the investigation is concluded.
