Dambrell L. Thomas Obituary, Death; – A 17-year-old has been taken into custody following the shooting of a modified 12-gauge shotgun within a residence in Mississippi, resulting in the death of a 31-year-old woman. Dambrell L. Thomas, aged 31, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest on George F. West Boulevard in Natchez, as reported by Adams County Coroner James Lee. Thomas was declared deceased at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday. According to the Natchez Democrat, the suspect is believed to have utilized a modified 12-gauge shotgun to deliver the lethal shot.
“This is truly tragic,” stated Coroner Lee. “My condolences extend to the families involved, as this situation yields no winners in our community. The repercussions of such preventable tragedies affect us all. We must continue to offer our prayers.” The incident reportedly originated from a prior confrontation between the juvenile and an adult male at the residence. After the initial dispute, the juvenile departed but subsequently returned armed and discharged the weapon inside the home, striking Thomas.
Following the shooting, the suspect barricaded himself within the Old Thompson School. Law enforcement surrounded the premises and, with the help of the suspect’s father, managed to persuade him to surrender to the police. “We believe the firearm he presented to officers is the weapon used in the murder,” stated Natchez Police Chief Cal Green. “We anticipate that he will face charges as an adult.” The investigation remains active as the community grapples with yet another preventable tragedy.
