Anthony Welch Obituary, Death; – Authorities are conducting an investigation following the fatal incident involving a man who was struck by a vehicle in St. Matthews over the weekend.
According to St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson, the hit-and-run occurred on Saturday night at approximately 11:30 p.m. on I-64 East, situated between Cannons Lane and the Breckenridge Lane overpass, in proximity to Bowman Field. The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Anthony Welch.
Chief Wilkerson stated, “We are aware that an altercation transpired downtown involving the individuals in the vehicle. They opted to return home, entering the car and traveling eastbound in that vicinity. Another confrontation ensued at that moment. [Welch] exited the vehicle, and they departed, leaving him behind.”
Shortly thereafter, Chief Wilkerson reported, Welch was struck by a vehicle. He noted that the initial altercation took place near the intersection of 5th and Chestnut Street. Furthermore, he mentioned the possibility that Welch may have been hit by a semi-truck driver who did not see him due to the darkness.
