Zuberi Sharp Arrested; – The individual apprehended at a high school football field, who is accused of murdering a teenager on Thursday night, has been identified as the brother of the victim. Authorities have named the suspect as Zuberi Sharp, a 24-year-old resident of Newbury Park. Neighbors informed Eyewitness News that the 15-year-old victim was indeed Sharp’s sibling.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Sharp allegedly assaulted his brother inside a residence located in the 400 block of Jeanne Court around 8 p.m. The teenager was discovered with blunt force trauma to the head, although the specific weapon used has not yet been determined. The victim succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
While neighbors believe that Sharp is the victim’s brother, this has not been officially confirmed by investigators. Detectives have stated that the suspect and the victim were acquainted. Sharp was subsequently apprehended on the football field of Newbury Park High School, approximately half a mile from the location of the assault. He was found without clothing at the time of his arrest.
A witness who was required to shelter in place reported to Newschain that numerous students were present on campus for after-school activities during the arrest. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
William Garcia, who was attending a dance recital at the school during the incident, recounted, “Some of the dancers were in a different room so they were locked down in their room, we were locked down in the back, and then when everything was settled, you know, resumed, then we found out afterward what actually happened.”
The motive behind this violent attack remains unclear, and the investigation is still active. Detectives are appealing to the public for any video footage of the suspect fleeing the scene or prior to his arrest, encouraging submissions through a provided link.
It is noteworthy that Sharp’s father is currently incarcerated for an unrelated murder. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed to Newschain that Zuberi Sharp is the son of Calvin Sharp, who was convicted of pursuing and killing a 6-year-old boy.
