William Britt,Patrick Britt Obituary, Death; – A father and son from Florida were identified as the two people killed in Tuesday afternoon’s devastating pileup on I-95 near Yemassee. William Britt, 68, and his son Patrick Britt, 30, both of Jacksonville, died at the scene of the crash, according to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. They were in the same vehicle traveling southbound.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday about a half-mile north of Yemassee town limits and involved 13 cars, trucks and commercial vehicles, according to Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Over two dozen people received medical treatment on scene and about 10 were taken to local hospitals, officials said. Four people, including the two deceased, were trapped in their vehicles and were removed by first responders.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes of the interstate until around 3 a.m. the following morning. Colleton County Fire Rescue said witnesses reported a heavy thunderstorm with “near-zero visibility” when the crash occurred. Because of the weather conditions, no medical helicopters could fly to the scene. The deadly crash remains under investigation by SCHP, South Carolina’s State Transport Police and the S.C. Department of Public Safety’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team, which conducts “in-depth investigations” and collision reconstruction for select traffic accidents around the state.
