Wesley Deckers Obituary, Death; – An 82-year-old man who sustained injuries from a home explosion in Union County has passed away, according to officials. Wesley Deckers had been under care at a long-term facility following his discharge from the hospital. He died on November 29 after suffering severe burns.
“This incident is a tragic accident, and our condolences go out to Mr. Decker’s family and friends,” stated Jon Williams, Union County Fire Marshal. “We are dedicated to carrying out comprehensive investigations to bring closure to those impacted.”
On November 17, emergency crews responded to a report of an explosion at 240 Steeplechase Circle. At the time of the incident, two individuals were present in the residence, including Wesley. His wife was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and has since been released.
The explosion was attributed to a fuel-air explosion, which was determined to be accidental by the Union County Fire Marshal’s Office. This type of explosion occurs when fuel combines with oxygen in the air, resulting in a significant blast. Investigators have indicated that the explosion originated in the garage, although three potential ignition sources were identified, the precise cause of the explosion remains unknown.
In accordance with protocol, the Union County Sheriff’s Office will initiate a death investigation.
