Scott Herring Obituary, Death; – Somerset County Coroner Cullen Swank has confirmed the identity of the individual discovered deceased in Flaugherty Creek on November 27 as Scott Herring, aged 58, from Meyersdale.

Swank has not yet determined the cause or manner of death, stating that “everything is still pending.” He noted that toxicology and other examinations have been conducted on the body, with results expected to take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to finalize.

In May, Herring was apprehended by Pennsylvania State Police following an incident on May 21, during which he was observed walking along Large Street in Meyersdale, brandishing a handgun and shouting at passersby.

As per online court records, Herring entered a guilty plea on September 5 to a charge of making terroristic threats, classified as a third-degree felony, while other charges, including simple assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass, were dismissed.

On October 28, Judge Scott Bittner sentenced him to a term of 4 to 23 months in the Somerset County Jail. Lt. Geoff Parrish from the Somerset County Jail confirmed that Herring was released from custody on the same day.

Defendants may be granted early release for the time served while awaiting trial. The Daily American has reached out to the Somerset County Public Defender’s Office to verify whether this was the reason for Herring’s release that day.
