Savon L Majette Obituary, Death;- A man was fatally shot and another sustained injuries in a shooting incident in Norfolk that occurred on Friday following a funeral for a family from Portsmouth.
The Norfolk Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Fife Street, close to Granby Street and the Metropolitan Funeral Home, at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man, later identified as 27-year-old Savon L. Majette, who had been shot. Authorities declared him dead at the scene.
According to a spokesperson for the police department, a second man was also shot and made his way to Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Officials have confirmed that the two incidents are connected.
Authorities stated that the shooting occurred in the parking lot after a funeral service for a Portsmouth family.
Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi was present at the scene and indicated that officials are committed to providing answers to the victim’s family.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and the police are dedicating significant resources to this case, actively pursuing leads,” Fatehi remarked. “I cannot disclose specific details… but they are diligently working on it. This is a high-priority case; they are performing admirably.”
A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed her surprise at the substantial police presence as she returned home from work. She noted that such incidents are uncommon in the area, and she believed she would be safe living adjacent to a church and a funeral home.
The shooting occurred near the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, which is well-known for its longstanding Greek festival. Images depict crime scene tape in a nearby parking lot.
