Roderick Rife Obituary, Death; – One man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike early Sunday morning, according to officials with OSHP.
State troopers say the crash happened shortly after midnight near milepost 77 in Sandusky County. Officials say a Ford Mustang was traveling eastbound in the right lane when it struck a tractor-trailer from behind. The Mustang then went into the middle lane of traffic, striking a Ford Bronco.
Both the Ford Bronco and tractor-trailer vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck the concrete median wall, according to OSHP. Troopers say the tractor-trailer caught fire.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as Roderick Rife, 69, of Sterling Heights, MI, was killed on the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the Mustang was hospitalized but is expected to survive, according to Troopers. The driver of the Ford Bronco was uninjured.
The crash shut down the turnpike in all directions for around an hour. OSHP says the official cause remains under investigation.
