Robert Duffy,Jeremy Folcik Arrested; – Two individuals suspected of operating a drone in close proximity to Boston’s Logan International Airport were apprehended on Saturday night and subsequently charged with trespassing, as reported by authorities.

The arrests occurred on one of the islands in Boston Harbor amidst ongoing concerns regarding drone activity in the airspace over New Jersey and Connecticut, which has raised alarms among residents and prompted some to advocate for federal drone detection systems, while others have called for the drones to be shot down.

As reported by the Boston Globe, Robert Duffy, 42, and Jeremy Folcik, 32, were taken into custody by harbor patrol shortly before 10:30 PM at a decommissioned health facility. The officers involved indicated they were investigating a “hazardous drone operation” in the vicinity of the airport.

A third individual, believed to have escaped the island via a small boat, is currently being pursued by law enforcement. According to the Boston police, a drone was discovered in Duffy’s backpack, and both men are scheduled for arraignment on Monday.

Police indicated that approximately six hours prior to the arrests, a Boston police officer utilizing surveillance technology detected an “unmanned aircraft system” operating near the airport. They were able to ascertain the drone’s location, altitude, flight history, and the operators’ position on Long Island in Boston Harbor.

“Even small drones present considerable risks, including the potential for catastrophic damage to aircraft,” stated the police in a press release. “Near-collisions can compel pilots to alter their course, endangering lives and property.”

Highlighting the seriousness of the response to the apparent surge in drone sightings, Boston police have coordinated their efforts with the Department of Homeland Security, Massachusetts State Police, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Federal Communications Commission, and Logan Airport’s air traffic control.

On Sunday, Chuck Schumer, the U.S. Senate Majority Leader, joined a growing list of officials advocating for federal-level drone detection technology.
