Robert Carmack Arrested; – A man has been charged with vehicular homicide, accused of taking the lives of a mother and her two sons in a devastating crash on I-40 more than a month ago, according to court documents.
Robert Carmack, 25 years old, faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide-reckless, aggravated assault, and reckless driving. On May 31, law enforcement responded to a deadly accident at I-40 West and Hollywood Avenue at 3:15 p.m.
Carmack was operating a black 2022 Ford F350 traveling westbound on I-40 West at a high speed, ignoring a TDOT flashing alert indicating construction ahead, as he approached slow-moving traffic. He collided with a white 2024 Honda from behind, which was occupied by Tonya Cannady and her two sons, Barry and Scot Cannady.
Court records indicate that the force of the impact was so severe that it resulted in four additional vehicles colliding with one another. Tonya and her two sons were declared dead at the scene, as per the records. Their vehicle was dragged approximately 50 yards by Carmack’s vehicle, leading to a fire that engulfed the cars. Another driver was transported to the hospital but is reported to be in non-critical condition.
