Ricky R Washington Jr Obituary, Death; – A man from Topeka has been charged in connection with the city’s 17th homicide of 2024, according to authorities.
Du’Jontez Jaimandre Jerome Owens, 24, was apprehended following the shooting death of 47-year-old Ricky R. Washington Jr. of Topeka, which occurred around 9 a.m. on November 10 in the 1200 block of S.W. Huntoon Street. Washington was declared dead at the scene.
Additionally, another individual sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident but has since been reported to be in stable condition. The Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office stated that an investigation by the Topeka Police Department led to the identification of Owens as a suspect in the shooting.
He was arrested and subsequently booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 11:30 p.m. on November 13, as reported by officials. On Monday, November 18, Owens was formally charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, according to the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office.
He is currently being held on a bond of $1 million and is scheduled to appear in court on January 30, 2025, as indicated by officials.
