Regina Banks Obituary, Death; – A man in Virginia Beach, accused of murdering a woman, is now in custody after eluding law enforcement during a police pursuit and subsequent manhunt overnight, as reported by the city’s police department.
Deric Lee Jr., aged 42, faces charges of second-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His arrest follows a comprehensive search that included a police chase across three cities and a manhunt that necessitated a shelter-in-place order. According to VBPD, officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in the 3600 block of Harbinger Road, near the intersection of Rosemont Road and Lynnhaven Parkway.
There, they discovered Regina Banks, 63, of Virginia Beach, who had sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. VBPD quickly identified Lee Jr. as the suspect and initiated a pursuit. Upon reaching a dead end in the West Norfolk area of Portsmouth around 10:30 p.m., he exited the vehicle and fled on foot, leaving the car to crash into nearby trees. During the manhunt for Lee Jr., a shelter-in-place order was issued for over two hours in the vicinity between Cedar Lane and Tyre Neck Road. Although he remained at large Thursday morning, police confirmed he was located and apprehended in the afternoon.
