Paulo Cuoto Obituary, Death; – A married father of two from New Jersey tragically lost his life in Astoria after sustaining a head injury while working on a sewage system located over a hundred feet underground.
At approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, October 7, officers from the 114th Precinct in Astoria responded to a 911 call concerning an injured individual at a work site near the intersection of 31st Street and 34th Avenue.
According to police reports, an employee of a private company was engaged in work on the sewage system when a piece of equipment fell and struck him. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and pronounced him deceased. The victim was later identified as 54-year-old Paulo Cuoto from Howell, New Jersey.
A law enforcement source involved in the investigation indicated that the equipment in question was a winch, a device used for lifting heavy objects via ropes or chains. The cause of the machinery’s fall down the shaft has yet to be determined, as stated by an NYPD spokesperson. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will ascertain the cause of death, and the investigation is still ongoing.
