Oreshama Johnson,Calvin Plant Obituary, Death;- Authorities have conducted several arrests following five shootings within a 24-hour period associated with homecoming football events in Mississippi, resulting in at least nine fatalities and numerous injuries.
On the night of Friday, October 10, three shooting incidents were reported by authorities, all linked to high school football events in the state. In total, eight individuals lost their lives and twelve others sustained injuries.
The following day, two more shootings connected to university events were reported on Saturday, October 11, one occurring at Alcorn State University and the other at Jackson State University. On Saturday, one person was killed and three others were injured.
Four individuals have been arrested and charged in relation to a shooting that resulted in six deaths and at least ten injuries on Friday night, October 10, in downtown Leland, shortly after a high school homecoming football game.
As per the FBI’s Jackson Field Office, three individuals are facing charges of capital murder, while a fourth is charged with attempted murder.

Authorities have not revealed a potential motive for the shooting in Leland on Friday night; however, the FBI indicated that the gunfire seems to have been ignited by a dispute among several individuals.
Additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation progresses, according to the Jackson FBI. Leland Mayor John Lee reported that the shooting took place around midnight following a homecoming football game at Leland High School. After the game, individuals congregated near Main Street in the city, where gunfire erupted, Lee stated.
According to the latest report from the Washington County Coroner’s office, there were six confirmed fatalities.
LaQuesha Watkins, the coroner of Washington County, stated that the victims identified include 41-year-old Oreshama Johnson, 19-year-old Calvin Plant, 25-year-old Shelbyona Powell, and 18-year-old Kaslyn Johnson, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
Watkins said two other victims identified as 18-year-old Amos Brantley Jr. and 34-year-old JaMichael Jones later died from their injuries at a hospital.
