Olga Hinds-Coley Obituary, Death; – Denise Gilpin, aged 50, has entered a plea of not guilty following her indictment for the murder of her mother, Olga Hinds-Coley, which occurred on April 7, 2025, in Poughkeepsie. Prior to her arraignment in Dutchess County Court regarding the grand jury indictment, Gilpin had made an earlier appearance in city court and had also undergone a professional psychiatric evaluation, known as a 730 Exam.
During the arraignment on Tuesday, Dutchess County Court Judge Jessica Segal remarked that the findings of the 730 Exam Report confirmed Gilpin’s competency to stand trial.
District Attorney Anthony Parisi commented, “This is an incredibly heartbreaking case, a family torn apart by an act of violence that took the life of a mother at the hands of her own daughter. Our thoughts are with those grieving this unimaginable loss. While we cannot undo the tragedy, we are committed to seeking justice and accountability under the law.”
As per court documents, Gilpin is alleged to have violently stabbed her mother in the chest between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on April 7, at 2 Oak Crescent Court, located on Poughkeepsie’s South Side. The City of Poughkeepsie police responded to a 911 call from the victim’s residence shortly after 1 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The daughter was found in a different part of the house and was taken to police headquarters as a “person of interest.” The mother was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Judge Segal ordered that Gilpin be remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail, highlighting that she has neither employment nor residence in the area. Prosecutor Angela LoPane pointed out that Gilpin had been living with her mother at the Oak Crescent home and is not eligible to continue residing there. Family members present in the courtroom did not indicate any willingness to allow the accused murderer to stay with them during the court proceedings.
