Nathan J Novakowski Obituary, Death; – An 18-year-old male was shot and killed by a New York State Trooper on Sunday, September 28, during a domestic dispute in Chemung town.
State Police, along with a deputy from the Chemung County Sheriff’s office, responded to a call regarding an ongoing physical domestic disturbance on Rotary Road at approximately 3 p.m. Upon their arrival, a trooper discovered a woman in the living room who was being threatened by a man wielding scissors, as reported by the police.
The individual, named Nathan J. Novakowski from Chemung, did not comply with orders to relinquish the weapon and became more agitated, according to law enforcement. When Novakowski made an attempt to stab the woman, the trooper fired his service weapon, fatally wounding him, as stated by the police.
The woman suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene from personnel of Greater Valley Ambulance. The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Attorney General’s Office are conducting an investigation into the incident, as mandated by state law in all situations involving fatal force used by law enforcement.
