Namar Hicks Obituary, Death; – An 18-year-old has been identified as the student who was shot and killed during what seemed to be an attempted robbery near a high school in Milwaukee on November 14.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the teenager as Namar Hicks, who was shot approximately two blocks away from Assata High School. Additionally, a 17-year-old suspect was also reported to have sustained injuries, according to police statements made earlier.

Hicks was shot while an attempted robbery was taking place on the 4600 block of North Hopkins Street. He subsequently tried to return to Assata High School, located at 3517 W. Courtland Ave., for help and was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident led to a lockdown at the school, after which parents were permitted to pick up their children.
“This is unacceptable, Milwaukee,” stated Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman during a news conference held on November 14 following the shooting. “We find ourselves reiterating the message regarding youth and gun violence. There is no place for firearms in the hands of our youth.”

Assata High School was established in 1992 as an alternative educational institution in collaboration with MPS. It caters to students who are at risk of not graduating, providing credit recovery courses and opportunities for career exploration.

As of the latest data available through November 13, there have been 128 reported homicides in Milwaukee in 2025. In comparison, 117 deaths were reported in the city during the same timeframe in 2024, according to statistics from the Milwaukee police.

The Milwaukee Police Department is actively searching for additional unidentified suspects. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the department at 414-935-7360. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can reach out to Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS or via the P3 Tips app.
