Michelle C Johnson Obituary, Death; – A motorist lost their life following a collision involving two vehicles on Interstate 40 East in Wilson County on Wednesday evening.
At 6:37 p.m. on November 20, the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) announced via X that the 226-B and 226-C exit ramps were obstructed and would remain so for approximately one hour due to a “Serious Injury Crash.” By 7:47 p.m., officials confirmed that the exit ramp had reopened.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the motorist involved and their family,” the MJPD stated in their post. “The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is conducting the investigation into the crash.”
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2017 Mercedes GL was heading east on I-40 when it attempted to exit at mile marker 226. The Mercedes reportedly sideswiped a 2023 Kia SPT, veered down an embankment, and collided with a large exit sign.
Authorities identified the driver of the Mercedes as 62-year-old Michelle C. Johnson from Tennessee. Although she was wearing a seatbelt, she succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
In contrast, the 26-year-old driver and the 28-year-old passenger of the Kia, which had pulled over to the shoulder after being struck by the Mercedes, were unharmed, as confirmed by THP. They were also wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident. Authorities indicated that no charges are expected to be filed in relation to this tragic event.
