Michael Casey Ellis Obituary, Death; – A jogger who lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in Ocean Beach on Thursday morning has been identified by local medical authorities. The deceased has been named as 30-year-old Michael Casey Ellis, as reported by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The incident took place shortly before 5 a.m. at the intersection of Nimitz Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard. Ellis was jogging westbound on West Point Loma Boulevard when he crossed Nimitz Boulevard and was struck by a BMW sedan traveling south on Nimitz Boulevard.
Witnesses indicated that the BMW appeared to be racing alongside a white Ford Mustang, with both vehicles reportedly exceeding 60 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone, according to officials. Upon the arrival of first responders, the victim was found and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the BMW fled the scene and was not located when U.S. Navy police officers discovered the abandoned vehicle less than two hours later in the 3500 block of Canon Street, close to the crash site. The vehicle exhibited considerable front-end damage and a broken windshield.
At this time, no description of the suspect has been released. Authorities are also seeking to identify the driver of the white Mustang. Traffic in the vicinity was disrupted for several hours.
