Mia Maro Obituary, Death; – A father from Illinois has been sentenced for the fatal beating of his teenage daughter following a dispute regarding her desire to attend prom. The tragic incident occurred in May 2022, as reported by WLS-TV.

Authorities discovered the body of 17-year-old Mia Maro on the lower level of their residence. Her father, 42-year-old Mohammed Almaru, was found nearby with self-inflicted injuries to his wrist and throat.

Almaru had taken pills and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he was stabilized, according to police reports. The public safety department determined that Maro’s death was a homicide resulting from multiple injuries.

Investigators revealed that the argument between Maro and her father centered on her plans to attend prom. Prosecutors indicated that although Almaru initially permitted his daughter to go, he later revoked his consent, expressing a lack of trust after she had previously damaged his vehicle.

In the days preceding her death, Maro reportedly communicated with a relative, expressing her fears that her father might physically harm her. Law enforcement officials discovered a bent metal pole and a rubber mallet, which were allegedly used in the murder.

Additionally, a letter purportedly written by Almaru was found, in which he confessed to assaulting Mia after learning that she had deceived him. He also allegedly admitted to the crime in a text message to a family member, stating, “I lost my mind, went out of control, and beat her … I f***ed up big time I’m sorry.”

On Monday, he received a sentence of 55 years. Although his attorneys sought a reduction of the sentence, the judge denied the request.

Almaru will receive credit for the more than two years he has already spent in custody; however, the judge mandated that he must serve the entirety of his sentence.
