Megan Trussell Obituary, Death; – The mother of a CU Boulder student who went missing, and whose remains were subsequently found along Boulder Canyon Road, is contesting the determination that her daughter’s death was a suicide.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced yesterday that eighteen-year-old Megan Trussell died due to the toxic effects of amphetamine, in conjunction with hypothermia. Officials stated in a press release that they found no signs of foul play, and that the county coroner has concluded that Trussell took her own life.

However, Trussell’s mother, Vanessa Diaz, disputes the suicide ruling, as reported by the Daily Camera, and is seeking a private autopsy. Diaz claims that the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office has been dismissive and disrespectful in their management of the case, asserting that her daughter was a joyful individual who was not suicidal. Regarding the amphetamine, Diaz informed the Camera that her daughter had been prescribed these medications to manage her ADHD.

Megan Trussell was last seen departing her dormitory on the CU campus on the evening of February 9th. Her body was discovered on February 15th, in what was characterized as “hard-to-reach” terrain near the 40-mile marker of Boulder Canyon Drive.

Investigators later traced her phone to a resale kiosk on March 2nd, after it was reportedly sold by an unhoused individual, who claimed to have received it from another unhoused person. Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson acknowledged that the investigation took longer than many had anticipated.
